My Story
Katia Somerville has always loved art, since elementary school when her favorite day of any class was the day set aside to draw the title page. One of her earliest memories was at 5 years old when it was her biggest dream to create a mountain-sized collection of art to be showcased on the front page of the local newspaper. So, feeling inspired by this goal she started drawing lots of small pictures and took them door to door around her neighborhood, offering to trade them for a dime or a cookie.

Abstract art has always attracted Katia. When her parents didn't know where she was, they would find young Katia hiding in the basement at the dusty bookshelf, enthralled with optical illusion images and art by Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher.

When Katia graduated from high school, she focused on a Bachelor of Education and attended art classes at University of Victoria and University of BC. She expanded her knowledge to create murals and 3D artwork pieces that incorporated nature elements, exploring how to draw portraits, animals, and street chalk art at this time as well.

Katia started tattooing in her late 20's after deciding that a career as an elementary school teacher wasn't for her. Over the years, her style leaned towards geometric shapes, patterns, and symbols. She also went through a phase of drawing fantasy castles. Today, she exclusively draws and tattoos abstract geometry and nature.
Katia loves to learn about and share her knowledge about the meaning and significance of sacred geometry by teaching online real-time classes through Insight Timer, live workshops at various festivals throughout BC, and here on her website. One thing Katia loves is to inspire others to feel the magic of drawing, especially drawing geometry. Thank you for joining her on this journey.
